Apple is about to drop some new iPads

Apple has announced May 7 as the date for its upcoming hardware reveal event, with a primary focus on the iPad, particularly highlighting the new tablet featuring an OLED screen.

The event details were shared on Apple’s events page, with the spotlight on the Apple Pencil in the special image for the show. Scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT on May 7, the event will be streamed on Apple’s site or the Apple TV app. This marks Apple’s first show of 2024, with expectations high for the rumored OLED iPad Pro. Anticipated features include 11.1-inch and 13-inch displays, with a 1mm reduction in thickness compared to the current iPad Pros. Rumors also suggest that the new iPad Pro OLED will utilize Apple’s M3 chip, currently present in its MacBook lineup.

Speculation abounds regarding potential upgrades to the Apple Pencil, fueled by clues found in the iOS 17.4 code. While details remain scarce, there is hope for improvements given some desired features missing from the Apple Pencil 3, such as pressure sensitivity.

The May 7 event is likely to unveil the remainder of Apple’s new iPad lineup, potentially including updated versions of the iPad Air and other accessories like a new Magic Keyboard.

This event marks the beginning of Apple’s annual cycle of introducing new hardware and software. In June, the Worldwide Developer Conference is expected to showcase all the forthcoming changes with iOS 18. Following that, the company’s major event in September will likely unveil the iPhone 16.
